Where Are You in Your Financial Journey

What you will learn from this chapter:

  • How the COVID-19 pandemic changed the way Filipinos view financial health
  • How to assess your financial health using a simple questionnaire
  • What are the signs that you're financially healthy
  • How to start thinking of your financial goals

Why do we need to learn about personal finance?

Financial health is much like physical health. Why do you see your doctor? Why do you exercise? Eating right and exercising regularly has always been aspirations we’ve accepted because we have a universal goal: live long, quality lives.

It’s the same with our financial health. We also need to assess it regularly – much like how we need to check our blood pressure or blood glucose to know the vital signs for health.

In this chapter, we provide a simple questionnaire that will check your financial health. This questionnaire will show a snapshot, which tells you your starting point in your journey to financial health and attaining your life goals. We’ll also give you some initial advice (yes, of course, it’s free) to get you started on your journey.

How to plan your financial goals

Financial health is much like physical health. Why do you see your doctor? Why do you exercise? Eating right and exercising regularly has always been aspirations we’ve accepted because we have a universal goal: live long, quality lives.

Many of our struggles are caused by poor financial health, but we’re always treating the symptoms instead of getting to the root cause. Instead of focusing all your energy on paying off your utang, for example, isn’t it better if you don’t have to borrow money in the first place?
